Turkey's exports are diversified with various sectors contributing to the country's total export volume. Turkey is expanding its range of exports in a number of sectors, including automotive, chemicals, iron and steel, garments and textiles. While exports of products from the automotive industry and the defense industry, which have developed in recent years, are promising, Turkey's high-tech exports are still very low. As of the beginning of 2023, the share of high-tech products in Turkey's manufacturing industry exports is 3.1%. High-tech products provide high profit returns thanks to know-how, and are high value-added products with low additional costs reflected in the unit cost due to the difference between product prices and freight costs.
According to the data announced by the Turkish Exporters' Assembly according to sectors, the distribution of Turkey's 254 billion USD exports in 2022 according to sectors is as follows.
1. Turkey Automotive Export Data:
Turkey is a major producer and exporter of automobiles and automotive parts. The sector is supported by a well-developed supply chain and a skilled workforce. Turkey's automotive exports amounted to $30.9 billion in 2022. The share of Turkish automotive exports in total exports in 2022 is 12.2
2. Turkey Textile, Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Export Data:
The textile sector is one of the oldest and most important sectors in Turkey. The country is a major exporter of textiles and clothing, including cotton, wool and synthetic fibers. In 2022, Turkey's textile and raw materials exports amounted to USD 10.3 billion, while ready-to-wear and apparel exports amounted to USD 21.2 billion.
3. Turkey Iron and Steel Export Data:
Turkey is a major producer and exporter of iron and steel products, including steel bars, sheets and pipes. The sector is supported by abundant raw materials and a well-developed production infrastructure. Turkey's exports of ferrous and non-ferrous metals amounted to $14.3 billion in 2022. Exports of steel products amounted to $21 billion.
4. Turkey Machinery Export Data:
Turkey manufactures a wide range of machinery, including industrial machinery, construction machinery and agricultural machinery. The sector is supported by a skilled workforce and advanced production technologies. Turkey's exports of machinery and components amounted to 10.3 billion dollars in 2022. This figure corresponds to 4.1% of total exports.
5. Turkey's Chemical Products Export Data:
Turkey is a major producer and exporter of chemicals, including petrochemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals. The sector is supported by abundant raw materials and a well-developed chemical industry. Turkey's chemical exports amounted to $11.5 billion in 2020.
In addition to these sectors, sectors such as food and beverages, electronics and construction materials also contribute to Turkey's total export volume and contribute to the national economy.
